What do you thing? Are mirrorless cameras changing the video market?

Will the mirrorless cameras replace the video cameras?

I remember that when I first read the news about The Black Magic that I was amazed what could they do with a m4/3 sensor.

In the world of photographers everybody needs bigger sensors, full-frame usually. Even amateurs are looking now for more afordable full frame cameras like Nikon d600 or d610 or Canon 6d. For some, APS-C sensors are small and m4/3 do not worth consideration. This is a common prejudice among photographers

I think Olympus om-d e-m5 and now e-m1 proved us that their sensors produce oft better image quality than APS-C cameras.

When it comes to video quality among mirrorless cameras, Panasonic GH3 is a leader!

I know a lot of weddings photographers who use this camera for film making. And the results are great.

Now Panasonic is pushing the limits of video quality again and the new sensor produced by Maicovicon will deliver: 4k movie @ 30fps.

Now, what does this mean?

4k = 3840 pixels × 2160 lines, that is 8.3 megapixels. (Image source: wikipedia)

Imagine that you are recording a movie and then you are able to select frames from that movie and you have the necessary quality to print it.

I think mirrorless cameras with m4/3 sensors have huge potential despite the sensor size barrier. 2014 will bring us  new surprises. Well done Panasonic!

Do you need this feature (video recording) when you buy a mirrorless camera? How important is for you the high video quality when you buy a mirrorless camera?
